The staff, students and parents of Fortis Academy are proud of the academic success achieved since our school opened in 2004. Fortis continues to excel in the standardized assessment given by the State of Michigan (MEAP) and the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA), a National Heritage Academies assessment administered to the students three times a year.
Fortis students continue to outperform elementary and middle schools in our surrounding communities and the State of Michigan. Fortis Academy met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and is an A-rated school in Michigan.
• The percentage of Fortis Academy students scoring at Level 1 (Advanced) on the 2006 MEAP increased on 12 out of 18 assessments since the previous year (Grade 7 is in its baseline year).
• Fortis Academy students outperformed the local district in the percentage of students scoring at Level 1 (Advanced) in 19 out of 22 assessments.
• Fortis Academy students in grade 3 outperformed both the district and state in all 2006 MEAP assessments.
• Fortis Academy students in grade 4 outperformed the district in three out of four MEAP assessments and outperformed the state in two out of four MEAP assessments.
• Fortis Academy students in grade 5 outperformed the district and state in mathematics on the 2006 MEAP assessments.
• Fortis Academy students in grade 6 outperformed the state in reading, writing and English Language Arts (ELA). They also outperformed the district in all subject areas on the MEAP assessments.
• Fortis Academy students in grade 7 outperformed the state and district in all four MEAP assessments.
The academic success of Fortis Academy is based on a dedicated, hardworking and committed instructional staff. It is through a careful partnership with parents that we are able to “challenge each child to achieve.”
